The LCO was established by Agreement dated July 6, 2007, signed by all our partners.
The Board of Governors has approved policies to govern the operations of the Commission: a “Good Governance Policy” in keeping with our values of excellence, transparency and accountability; "Language and Translation"; "Copyright and Attribution" to apply to research completed for the LCO; and "Retention of Consultants".
The Strategic Plan also sets standards for the LCO's activities.
The LCO Board of Governors will review these policies and the Strategic Plan periodically.
Through this partnership, the Law Commission of Ontario has a 5-year mandate to make recommendations to:
- Make the legal system more relevant, accessible and efficient
- Simplify or clarify the law
- Use technology to increase access to justice
