Precarious work and vulnerable workers
Several sources have identified the impact of precarious work, or the status of marginalized or vulnerable workers, as of serious concern and have proposed projects in this area to the LCO. The employment context has been identified as one reason for higher than average poverty levels among racialized groups and as having a disproportionate impact on women who are more likely to be employed in part-time work than are men.
The initial consultation process will raise the following issues:
-
exclusions from protective legislation;
-
enforcement and collection processes;
-
the impact on recent immigrants and women; and
-
the situation for temporary foreign workers
The project will not duplicate the study being carried out by the Ministry of Labour on temporary agencies.
The LCO will begin the project when resources permit.
