The Law Commission of Ontario invites applications for summer 2011 from law students currently enrolled in an LLB or JD Ontario law school program who are interested in participating in the process of law reform from inside a law reform commission. The LCO’s mandate is to make recommendations to make the law more accessible, effective and relevant, to simplify and clarify the law and to consider ways in which technology can assist in these objectives. It is also expected to stimulate critical debate about law and promote scholarly legal research.
If you are selected, you will be primarily involved in carrying out research in support of the LCO’s projects and, depending on the stage of the projects, may also have an opportunity to participate in consultations with community groups and other on-going activities of the LCO. You may have the opportunity to prepare papers on relevant issues and may be requested to do some administrative work.
The LCO office is located in York Lanes on the York University campus in Toronto. If you attend law school outside Toronto, you may work off-site. Some travel may be required, depending on the particular activity in which the student is involved.
