The Law Commission of Ontario invites applications for summer 2012 from graduate law students currently enrolled in an Ontario law school. The LCO’s mandate is to make recommendations to reform law to increase access to the legal system, to simplify and clarify the law and to consider ways in which technology can assist in these objectives. It is also expected to stimulate critical debate about law and promote scholarly legal research.
The successful student will be primarily involved in carrying out research in support of the LCO’s projects in preparing research papers and depending on the stage of the projects, may participate in consultations with legal and community groups and other organizations and other on-going activities of the LCO.
The LCO office is currently located at Osgoode Hall Law School in the Ignat Kaneff Building on the York University campus in Toronto. Students from law schools outside Toronto may work in the city where their law school is located, but will be expected to attend at the LCO offices once or twice over the summer (expenses paid). Some travel may be required, depending on the particular activity in which the student is involved.
