Who We Are
The Board of Governors, comprised of representatives of the founding partners and at-large members, determines policy for the LCO and approves projects, discussion papers and reports, among other responsibilities. Governors serve for two or three years.
The Research Advisory Board, consisting of representatives of the Ontario law schools, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ministry of the Attorney General, a member representing the legal profession and a member who from a discipline other than Law (the last two to be appointed), serve for a period for three years. RAB recommends research projects to the Board of Governors and establishes multidisciplinary research teams, among other tasks.
The Executive Director is a non-voting member of the Board of Governors and Chair of the Research Advisory Board. She is the CEO of and chief spokesperson for the LCO and is responsible for the day to day functioning of the LCO.
The Staff Lawyer carries out research, coordinates major projects, engages in consultation and supervises researchers. The part-time Research Lawyer’s task is mainly to carry out research, but she will also be involved in consultations. The LCO’s Executive Assistant provides support for the Executive Director and the LCO’s activities and is the first contact at the LCO for many people.
