On May 30, 2017, the provincial government announced its intention to introduce legislation, The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act¸ 2017, that would amend Ontario’s Employment Standards Act and Labour Relations Act. The government publicly acknowledged the role of the LCO’s recent Vulnerable Workers and Precarious Work report in its proposals, specifically the LCO’s analysis regarding “dependent contractors.” The provincial proposals include several other reforms that were recommended in the LCO’s report.
