Introduction
The LCO’s class actions project undertook the most extensive consultations on class actions in Canada. Key elements of our consultation process included a Consultation Paper, written submissions from stakeholders, and a interviews and meetings with a broad range of individuals and organizations.
Consultation Paper on Class Actions
In March 2018, the Law Commission of Ontario released a public consultation paper on class actions in Ontario.

The Consultation Paper identified the general areas of inquiry for the LCO class actions project, including questions regarding:

- Settlements and class actions outcomes

- Carriage
- Appeals
- Empirical data collection
Written Submissions
The LCO received 32 written submissions from a broad cross-section of individuals and organizations. The submissions are available here.
Individuals and Organizations Consulted
The LCO consulted with a wide range of individuals and organizations, including a broad cross section of lawyers, judges, class administrators, class members, community organizations, insurers, academics, justice system officials and government representatives. The LCO consulted with individuals and organizations in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, the United States and Australia.
In accordance with the LCO’s Privacy Policy, the names of individuals who contributed to the project or who were interviewed by the LCO are not listed here.
